Celtics Escape with Overtime Win in Game 1 of Eastern Conference Finals

Boston Survives Pacers' Hot Shooting

May 21, 2024 (ESPN)

The Boston Celtics overcame a sizzling shooting performance from the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night, eking out a 133-128 overtime victory in Game 1 of the 2024 Eastern Conference finals.

Despite allowing the Pacers to shoot an astounding 53.5 percent from the field, the Celtics managed to pull away in the extra period, thanks in large part to Jayson Tatum's heroics. Tatum poured in 10 of his game-high 36 points in overtime, including a pair of free throws with 10.5 seconds remaining that sealed the win.

The Pacers had a chance to tie the game in the waning seconds, but Tyrese Haliburton's potential game-tying three-pointer bounced off the rim.

The Celtics led by 10 points with just over four minutes remaining in regulation, but the Pacers rallied with a quick 7-0 run to take a four-point lead. However, Jaylen Brown's tying three-pointer with 61 seconds left sent the game into overtime.

The Celtics will look to take a 2-0 lead in the series when Game 2 takes place in Boston on Monday night.
