Alphonso Davies' agent responds to Bayern Munich report: 'I won't be hurling insults'
Negotiations between Bayern Munich and Alphonso Davies' agent over a new contract have reportedly reached an impasse, with the player's representative insisting that he will not be drawn into a public spat with the club.
According to a report in German publication Bild, Bayern are growing frustrated with Davies' wage demands, with the Canadian international said to be seeking a significant increase on his current salary of around €10m per year.
Davies' agent, Nick Househ, has denied that the player is holding the club to ransom, and has insisted that he is simply looking for a deal that reflects his value to the team.
"Alphonso is a world-class player, and he deserves to be paid like one," Househ told The Athletic.
"We are not asking for anything unreasonable, but we are not going to accept anything less than what we believe is fair."
Househ also hit out at Bayern for leaking details of the negotiations to the media, saying that it was an attempt to put pressure on Davies.
"It is clear that Bayern are trying to use the media to force Alphonso into a corner," Househ said.
"But we will not be bullied into accepting a deal that is not in Alphonso's best interests."
Davies, who joined Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019, has been one of the club's most impressive performers in recent seasons.
The 22-year-old has won four Bundesliga titles, a Champions League and a Club World Cup with Bayern, and was named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season in 2019/20.
Davies' current contract with Bayern expires in 2025, but the club are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
However, it remains to be seen whether the two parties can reach an agreement, with Davies' agent insisting that he will not be pressured into accepting a deal that he is not happy with.
